Day 3: San Pedro de Atacama: Salar de Atacama
Free morning to enjoy the silent atmosphere of the desert or visit the nearby pre-Inca fortress of Pucará de Quitor.
In the afternoon we visit the Salar de Atacama. En route we shall visit the town of Toconao. The houses in this small picturesque village are built from bricks of white volcanic stone, giving the town a very unique appearance.
After Toconao, we continue on to visit one of the world’s largest salt lakes: the Salar de Atacama. The salt lake is home to various species of flamingos (and other wildlife). The visit offers a terrific opportunity to get closer to these birds in their natural habitat.
