Bolivian Highlights offers a great overview of this fascinating country, and can either be added on to a Peru tour or enjoyed on its own.

Day 1: Puno/La Paz - Copacabana

The tour departs Puno or La Paz traveling by bus to Copacabana.

On arrival in Copacabana, we have lunch in Khota Kahuana Restaurant.

In the afternoon, we visit the beautiful baroque-Moorish style Virgen de la Candelaria Church and the nearby handicraft market. If you are feeling energetic you can also climb the hill to The Calvary, which is a unique monument merging native religious beliefs and Christianity.

In the evening, we have dinner at the spectacularly-located Hotel Rosario del Lago.

Day 2: Lake Titicaca: Island of the Sun

This morning, we take a boat from Copacabana to Yumani, from where we start a four hour hike along the ancient Inca paths, traveling South to North, experiencing marvelous views of the lake. A packed lunch is provided for the hike.

In the afternoon we will arrive at the Chinkana Inca Temple and Sacred Rock. Hiking a little further we reach Challapampa, which is a charming village with a small, local Inca museum.

From Challapampa, we return by motorboat to Copacabana.

Day 3: Copacabana - La Paz

We have the morning free: a visit to La Horca del Inca astronomic observatory is recommended.

After lunch, we take a bus to La Paz.

Upon arrival, we check into our hotel, and have the rest of the day free to explore.

Day 4: La Paz: City Tour; Valley of the Moon

This morning, we set out on a tour of La Paz visiting the Main Square (Plaza Murillo), San Francisco Church, the Witches Market, the Precious Metals Museum and the Killi Killi Watchtower.

Following the city tour we visit the amazing geological shapes of the Valley of the Moon.

Day 5: La Paz - Oruro - Uyuni

We leave La Paz early this morning to travel by bus to Oruro where we transfer to the afternoon train to Uyuni.

We arrive in the evening and are transferred to our hotel.

Day 6: Uyuni - Jirira

Today we visit the world's largest salt lake, Uyuni. We visit Colchani, a settlement based on the salt-extraction industry along the way.

We have lunch on Fish Island, a coral island raised up from the ocean bed.

In the afternoon, we walk around the north part of the lake, appreciating the multi-coloured Quinua Fields, before returning to the Salt Lake to watch the sunset.

Tonight's accommodation is a simple guesthouse in Jirira, where dinner is provided.

Day 7: Jirira - Tunupa Volcano - La Paz

Very early in the morning we depart for Tunupa Volcano. Halfway to the top we reach a watchtower from where we may appreciate the vastness of the Salt Lake. We then drive down through Coquesa visiting the Chullpares (ancient cemeteries).

In the afternoon, we return to Uyuni visiting the Eyes of the Salt Lake along the way.

This evening, we board our bus for La Paz.

Day 8: La Paz

This morning we arrive in La Paz, where our tour ends.
