This is an excellent alternative to Machu Picchu. Choquequirao is thought to be larger in area than Machu Picchu but with fewer buildings. Only 30% of the site has been uncovered to date, so it is a true adventure!.  Be one of the first to visit!!.. The site occupies a ridge spur about 1600m above the raging Apurimac river. Please note that this is a camping trip, and all accomodation is tented. Meals are provided during the trek and are provided by our support staff. Please notify us of any dietry requirements.

Day 1: Cusco: Arrival

Arrival into Cusco, pre trek briefing will be held at tour hotel at 7pm.

Day 2: Cusco – Cachora – Santa Rosa

Transfer from hotel to the town of Cachora, observe the majestic snowcapped peaks of Padrajoc and Wayna Cachora. Trek 7 hours , walk through the small villages of, la Colmena (2870masl), Cocamasana(2330masl), Torowisqana(2285masl), Chiquisca(1950masl), Playa Rosalina( 155masl),  La Huerta (2705masl),  observe the deep Canyon of Apurimac, before arriving to Santa Rosa (2115masl), where we will camp.( L,D )

Day 3: Santa Rosa – Rayacpata

Hike 5 hours to Choquequiraw. Visit the Archaelogical site of Choquequirao and observe the three levels, where you can appreciate  houses, terraces . Choquequirao is considered “The Last Refuge of the Inca Empire”  which was first discovered and explored by Juan Ariaz Diaz in 1710. Our bilingual guide will explain the history and importance of the site after the Spanish arrived in Peru.  Mid afternoon appreciate “the flight of the condors”.  Camp in  Rayacpata (2910masl). Day 4: Rayacpata – Chiquispa

Trek to Chiquisqa and the Apurimac Canyon, observe the flight  of  the Condors and the vegetation, flowers and orchids. Hike approx 8 hrs, altitude: 3033- 1950m above sea levelpassing through small settlements. Stop in Playa Rosalina where we will have our lunch and after we´ll continue to Chiquisqa.  Camp. ( B,L,D )

Day 5: Chiquispa – Cusco

Trek to the town of Cachora town, approx 6 hours and transfer to Cusco, if we have time stop in Cconoc and enjoy the Hot Springs, arrive to Cusco approx 8pm. Transfer to your hotel for the night. ( B,L )

Day 6: End of Tour

Our services end after breakfast.

  • Collection from your hotel in the morning and transfer in private bus to Cachora, the starting point of the trek;

NOT INCLUDED : sleeping bag (contact us to hire) and tips We recommend your pack clothing suitable for the alpine environment. The Weather can change rapidly at altitude. Please note that  Mules only carry camping equipment, individuals carry own daypack. Mules can be hired and can carry a maximum of 8 kilos.
