Day 1: Iquitos – Muyuna Lodge: Lunch & Dinner
Upon arrival at Iquitos airport, we welcome you and take you on a brief city tour before transferring you to the Amazon River port to board our launch taking us upriver to Muyuna Lodge.
Having settled into your lodge accommodation, we have lunch; and then, in the afternoon, we make a boat trip to Lake Sapote, to spot birds such as parrots, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, panguana, partridges, pigeons, cormorants, and horned screamers; we then continue to Lake Moena, in the hope of seeing mammals such as sloth and several types of monkeys.
After watching the sun set over the jungle canopy, we return to the lodge.
After dinner at the lodge, there is the option to go on a boat ride and try and spot black and white caimans, along with other nocturnal birds and mammals!
Day 2: Muyuna Lodge: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After an early breakfast, we make a visit to Lake Casha, either hiking or by boat, depending on the level of the water. The lake is rich in fauna.
After lunch at the lodge, we make a boat trip to Lakes Purura and Corrientes, where we can go fishing … for the notorious piranha, among other species. This is also a great area to spot the prehistoric hoatzin, a bird with three claws on the middle joint of the wing.
After dinner, we take a night walk in search of huge frogs, which are the favourite food of the anaconda! We should also see several species of tarantula, which despite their appearance and reputation, are not dangerous to humans.
Day 3: Muyuna Lodge: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
After an early breakfast, we head out on foot, from the lodge to appreciate the immense variety of flora and fauna. This is an area frequented by jungle felines, and even if we don’t spot them, we almost always see their tracks.
Lunch will be served outdoors, beside a black water creek, to enjoy more time in this remote, wildlife-infested place.
In the late afternoon, we pay a visit to the village of San Juan de Yanayacu, to get a taste of Amazon life, buy some handicrafts … or even have a sweaty game of football!
Return to lodge in the evening for dinner, followed by a nighttime canoe trip, to listen to the atmospheric sounds of the rainforest after dark.
Day 4: Muyuna Lodge: Breakfast
Today, we have breakfast on the boat as it takes us to the Amazon River. Once here, we can experience one of the most magical moments of your trip: to see, listen to, and even swim with the pink Amazon River dolphins playing around the boat!
On the way back to the lodge, you will see the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia. It’s also easy to spot iguanas on this ride.
After lunch, we transfer back to Iquitos airport or hotel at the end of this magical lodge stay.
