Upon arrival at Santiago airport, we welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.
In the afternoon, we enjoy a tour of the city, both old and new, including the Plaza de Armas, the city's central square which is home to the beautiful Cathedral and Post Office; the Cerro Santa Lucia, the hill on which Santiago was founded in 1541, with great views of the city; and finally the modern, commercial areas of Barrio Alto.
Today, we drive out of Santiago to the Pacific Ocean to visit Valparaiso, Chile's oldest port, with a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city centre. Of particular charm are the 15 funicular elevators, built in the 19th Century to connect the upper and lower sections of the town, and still in use today. Valparaiso was also home to Nobel Prize-winning poet and left-wing activist, Pablo Neruda, so we will pay a visit to his former house and studio.
Connected to Valparaiso is the popular beach resort of Vina del Mar, with its elegant hotels, restaurants and parks, offering a flavour of the French Riviera in South America. We spend time here, before returning to Santiago.
Today, we explore two of the world famous vineyards of the Maipo valleys. This valley, close to Santiago, produces some of the finest wine on the continent. Our expert guides take us to large and small wineries ... and there is plenty of time to sample!
In the afternoon we return to Santiago, where we spend the night.
We transfer you to the airport, at the appropriate time, for your onward flight.
