A city tour of Brazil's fastest-growing urban centre
Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil, with an estimated population of some 11 million, and it is the financial and industrial powerhouse of the country. Often overshadowed by Rio and Salvador as a tourist destination, Sao Paulo nonetheless has a wealth of attractions for the visitor, from world-class museums to inviting parks and iconic modern architecture, with a fascinating ethnic mix and the best cultural life in the country; and paulistanos, as the residents of Sao Paulo are known, are renowned for their hospitality.
Day 1: Sao Paulo: Arrival
Arrival in Sao Paulo and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2: Sao Paulo: City Tour
Today we embark on a half day tour of the city (approximately 4 hours in duration). Starting from the Oriental Neighbourhood, which contains the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, we continue downtown through Sé Square, featuring Sé Cathedral, which took 4 decades to build.
We will pass through the important financial district, centred on Paulista Avenue, and see Sao Paulo’s internationally-recognised Art Museum. We visit the Butantã Institute, famous for its study of snakes and on the way back to the hotel, we will see The Government Palace, the Morumbi soccer stadium and Ibirapeura Park with more than one million square meters of gardens. We will also have a chance to see the work of the legendary, contemporary architect, Oscar Niemeyer.
